When people ask me why it’s so easy for me to ignore the comments people make about my appearance, and how I am able to be so comfortable in my own skin… I have to say first, it’s not ALWAYS easy to ignore comments, or feel comfortable with myself. Everyone has off days, even the strongest of us. I could never really explain to people why being the most beautiful person physically isn’t the most important thing to me… but these pictures might help some of you understand.
This is me when I was on life support. Fighting for your life isn’t something a sixteen year old girls should have to do. Being told to make arrangements because there is nothing the doctors or the hospital can do to save your life is something that no person, especially a child should ever have to hear, but at the ripe age of sixteen, I knew I was going to die. To this day it’s still a mystery to me how I made it out of that hell alive, but I did, and with plenty of battle scars to prove it.
Thats the point of this post. Everyone has a battle they are fighting, and battles leave scars. And just because someone looks funny to you, it doesn’t mean you have to make comments to make them feel bad about it, because not everyone comes out of a difficult time feeling comfortable the way I have. I took my experiences and learned that there are far more important things in life than what I look like… and I’m alive… and that is the most beautiful thing. But not eveybody comes out with that outlook. You don’t know what someone has gone through in their life, and not everybody is as strong as they appear.
If your mom never taught you that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all… Hopefully this post helps you to realize that words can be incredibly hurtful to people who are having a difficult time already without your negative comments.
it’s not difficult to be nice to someone who has never done anything to give you a reason to be mean. So why do some of you do it?
